Daily truth to feed your soul and help make you whole anewwayofseeing.blogspot.com
What did you have for lunch 3 weeks ago on Tuesday? Most of us would have trouble remembering. But what did you have last Thanksgiving? Or on your birthday? A wedding reception? Those special days we remember…but all the other 362 days of the year? Not usually. But everything we eat feeds our body and helps it to stay alive and grow.
The same is true for spiritual food! We need daily truth to feed our spirit and to grow. Sometimes we don’t always remember what we “ate” spiritually 3 weeks ago, but our spirit fed off it. Sometimes we don’t always understand everything that we are “eating” when we open the Bible and read. (When I first moved to Ukraine I ate all sorts of things that I had no idea what they were! ha! I survived!) But even those things that we don’t completely understand – our spirit feeds off them!
And how is it that our spirits can be fed and satisfied from reading the Bible? Is it a matter of checking off a spiritual To Do List to make ourselves accepted by God? Or is it about intellectually knowledge? No, it is not that or what we read so much as Who we meet when we read that will satisfy our spiritual hunger. Jesus said to the religious hypocrites of his day –
“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life.
But the Scriptures point to me!
Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.”
(I John 5:39-40)
These religious leaders that he was speaking to wanted to be right, to have the right answers and to get the right results. None of those are bad goals, but they miss the point when it comes to Jesus. Because coming to Jesus is the point! Come to Jesus and receive life!
